PRACTICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: The purpose of outlining the practical responsibilities of this position is not to micromanage your time. This is a high-level look at the expectations we have on this position. How that practically works itself out and thrives is part of the responsibility and trust we place in you. The Lead Pastor’s (and Elders’) role in overseeing this position is to provide resources, assistance, guidance and wisdom along the way, and ultimately to hold you accountable to the purpose stated above. This position breaks down into 4 categories: Local Outreach: Equip the church for making disciples of Jesus Christ in the city of Tyler for the glory of God and the expansion of His Kingdom. Establishing and leading evangelism missions in which the primary focus is sharing the gospel message with others. Managing and creating partnerships with other local organizations, ministries, and churches who are seeking to make a kingdom impact for the glory of God in Tyler. Working with the various ministries of LAC to spread the priority of “gospel out” into all areas of the life of the church. Meeting with individual believers at LAC to equip and encourage them in their pursuit of making disciples. Modeling a life of “gospel-out” by imbedding yourself within the larger community of Tyler and making disciples within that community. Foreign Missions: Lead and equip the church to support the advancement of the gospel in foreign nations for the glory of God. Duties include: Guiding and working with the Deacon of Missions to foster a greater heart for foreign missions at LAC. Ensuring consistent updates and communication between the missionaries that LAC supports and the church body. Finding and vetting new potential missionaries that LAC could partner with and support. Planning and leading mission trips that the church body is able to participate in. Managing financial partnerships with missionaries and missions organizations. Pastoral Leadership: Shepherd and support the church by partnering with the other pastors to see God glorified through LAC. Duties include: Participate in all the required responsibilities of a vocational elder at LAC. Administration: Manage and oversee the administrative tasks of LAC so that the church might accomplish her mission of bringing glory to God through the intaking and pouring out of the gospel. Duties include: Leading and coordinating with the administrative assistant to build efficient systems and processes for the church. Managing the tasks required for maintaining the church building and property. Recruiting and training volunteers to support the church’s administrative needs should additional help be appropriate. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: We want it to be clear that there is an expectation for all staff members to serve the needs of the church as needs arise. Even though the responsibilities listed above will make up the majority of your work, we expect you to be willing to work for the church in whatever ways are needed and asked of you by the elders. BUDGET: As the Outreach Pastor you are also responsible for making budget requests for the creation of the annual budget, keeping up with expenditures throughout the year by working with the finance committee, and making requests to the elders/leaders for any purchases that will exceed or be in addition to your annual budgets. You will manage both the outreach and missions budget. You will also oversee the Administrative Assistant’s budget areas. OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO YOU: The Elders and the Lead Pastor need to play an active role in your life. They should be devoted to your personal and family’s spiritual health, as well as your physical needs. The Elders’ responsibility is to provide you with the proper tools, leadership and direction to complete the above job description, as well as play an active role in your spiritual and personal development. PRACTICAL DETAILS: As mentioned, this is not to lock you down and micromanage your time. The Elders have you in this position because we trust you and lean heavily on your expertise in outreach, missions, and administration. This is a full-time, salaried position and the expectation is that you work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Your exact hours will fluctuate week-to-week, but the elders will be consistently checking in and making sure your workload is healthy. We need you to communicate with us if you find yourself working too much or too little so we can adjust the expectations. JOB PERFORMANCE: We will have yearly reviews to go over performance in more detail. Finding God- honoring health and growth within this job description will always be a moving target in need of constant revision, flexibility and mutual grace.
